Wishes

My hands once so busy through the day
I didn't have much time to play
the little games you asked me to
Sadly I had little time for you

I'd tuck you in all safe at night
hear your prayers turn out the light
then tiptoe softly to the door
how I wish I had lingered more

for life is short, the years rush past
children grow up so very fast
now no longer are they at my side
with precious secrets to confide

My hands once so very busy
now are still
the days are long and hard to fill
How I wish I could go back and do

those little things you asked me to
how I wish I had never said
later dear, I am too busy for you
for now you are no longer a child
still you say Mum growing up was fun
